| This lonely tree, typical of New Zealand, is standing on the coast at Pakawau, on Golden Bay on the northern tip of South Island. The 26 km long Farewell Spit across the Bay is the longest sandspit in New Zealand and is administered by the New Zealand Department of Conservation as a sea bird and wild life reserve.
