| This rural scene is typical of a small farm located deep in the Cuban landscape. This farming area is in Pinar de Rio, not far from the small town of Mantua,in the western end of Cuba and far to the west of the capital, Havana. The proud farmer and his wife take time off in the hot sunshine from their labours. The main crop in the farms in this region is the tobacco plant. After harvesting, the tobacco leaves were stored in wooden barns to dry. Beside this farmhouse, the farmer had built a traditional small storm shelter to protect the family from the periodical violent hurricanes. |
